		<title>The Fireboard!</title>
		<link>http://www.malscene.net/portal/content/view/18/</link>
		<description>
We&amp;#39;ve migrated the forum system from PHPBB to Fireboard! Main problem with PHPBB is that it&amp;#39;s tedious to upgrade especially when your forum is heavily moded. Other than that, it&amp;#39;s just too popular and therefore made it a target for spambots. Just google a generic phpbb forum url and you&amp;#39;ll get all sites with phpbb installed and frankly speaking we&amp;#39;re tired of having to deal with those pesky spams.

The migration was successful. We transferred all the users and the forum categories and postings to the new fireboard. BUT after cleaning up the user database, we accidentally deleted a lot of active forumners user accounts!! (including mine! LOL). So if you suddently can&amp;#39;t seem to log in using your regular username and password... please... just sign up again. You won&amp;#39;t be seing your old forum postings though.. all that has been deleted.. are definitely gone. I didn&amp;#39;t made any backups.

Fireboard is pretty new. It&amp;#39;s based on Joomlaboard which if I&amp;#39;m not mistaken was based on SMF (simple machine forum). It&amp;#39;s a forum component (not a bridge) for joomla and mambo system. The interface is simple and since we&amp;#39;re running a CMS driven site, the light weight forum system is good enough for regular chatting purposes.

However, Fireboard is still in development. Yesterday we realized that it took more than 15 seconds to load the forum index page whereby it only took 3-4 secs to load a phpbb index. We found a fix for that and it shoud load faster than yesterday.

Well that&amp;#39;s the progress at this moment. check out the new forum! will load more stuff this weekend.

		<title>After NUKE</title>
		<link>http://www.malscene.net/portal/content/view/13/</link>
		<description>
Selecting which CMS engine to use for the new site is a freakin nightmare! But since I&amp;#39;m pretty much left behind in the NUKE world, I&amp;#39;ve decided to take a dive into other type of CMS.

The old malscene was build with the concept of visitors contributed content in mind. The site enable visitors (registered or not) to submit gigs event info, news, articles and sometimes, we allow them to upload photos in our public photo gallery. This works fine for a couple of years but later on, as more people started to come in, it just went crazy. People submitted incomplete information, pasting text from forums which contains BBCODE (which is not supported in the old malscene), flood the event list with redudant entries and basically rendered the whole concept useless. We won&amp;#39;t be able to publish a lot of news or article submissions due to this issues.

The new malscene will function differently. We&amp;#39;ll appoint several web admins to manage the content. In this initial launch, we&amp;#39;re only going to experiment this with gigs and events related information. If things worked out well.. then only we proceed with other categories suggested by our forum members.

So basically, the idea of making the site grow by itself didn&amp;#39;t worked. you guys ler kelam kabut!

Anyway, We know some of you still need to be in malscene. With this in mind, we are rebuilding the site.

Check back often fellas!

		<title>Malscene is back!</title>
		<link>http://www.malscene.net/portal/content/view/12/</link>
		<description>
Yeah we&amp;#39;re back. After receiving feedback from our few forumners, and constant flow of emails requesting to re-open malscene.net especially the gig event section which is what most people are here for in the 1st place, we&amp;#39;ve decided to get it back up and running again.

The previous website has gone whacko! it was running on an old PHPNUKE but it was good enough to fend off a huge number of kids who had too much time on their hands and were using that time to poke around the site. Few month back.. they broke the forum system. Unfortunately I didn&amp;#39;t have a lot of free time to go in and figure out what were causing the problem, so I locked down the site instead. There&amp;#39;re too much crappy discussions anyway so I&amp;#39;m not that keen to keep all the forum data. There&amp;#39;re thousands of registered users but mostly inactive. I&amp;#39;m about to wipe out all the accounts and forum postings but a few regulars in the forums are not that comfortable with that idea and I just couldn&amp;#39;t dissapoint them.

So that&amp;#39;s basically what happened. Sad eh? blame it on google! LOL.

Anyway, we&amp;#39;re online again. do visit the forums, hang out, and if anybody wishes to contribute a bit of their time to help maintaining this site, do let us know about it. We always welcome good people who wishes to help out and be a part of our small family.
